By H.G. Wooten, Associated PressAUSTIN (AP) Google has started expanding its advertising-focused search engine to cover mobile devices and mobile apps as well as its search engine in the United States, according to a new report.
Google is using a technology called AdWords to build an advertising network that includes more than 70 million people and its Google AdSense network that connects companies to advertisers, said a report Thursday from digital marketing firm DigitalMarkets.
The company has been experimenting with advertising on mobile devices, with a growing interest in mobile-friendly search results, a report said.
Google said the mobile advertising campaign will run on mobile-first search results on mobile phones and tablets, as well.
Google has previously launched its own mobile ad network in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, but has been reluctant to take on the advertising space.
Google was among the first major U.S. tech companies to try to build its own advertising network, but that effort was eventually shelved amid concerns about how Google’s technology could be abused by spamming, a potential problem in the U.K.
Google said the advertising network is not related to its ad-targeting services, and the ads that appear on the Google AdWords platform are created by its search algorithm, not by its ad tech companies.
DigitalMarkets said Google has launched an ad-marketing partnership with digital marketing agency Zazzle that is targeting people who search for ads on the Zazzles search engine.
It said Zazzlers ads have been placed on Google search results in a wide variety of languages.
Google is expected to launch a Google Ads mobile ad service, which it has said it will begin testing in March.
